iSpring

iSpring Suite is a PowerPoint-based authoring toolkit produced by iSpring Solutions that allows users to create slide-based courses, quizzes, dialogue simulations, screencasts, video lectures, and other interactive learning materials. The output courses are published in HTML5 and SCORM.

Technology
iSpring
Pros
  • Allows the content to be placed before programming receives it
    • Often takes less time to QA than Storyline modules
  • Gives us a better way to visually present what the final product looks like to the client
  • Doesn't require a storyboard as most of the information for the project is already in the PowerPoint
  • Easier to learn since it is based in PowerPoint
Cons
  • Instructions are sometimes not as clear or forgotten because there's no storyboard
  • When using iSpring it generates folders that contains all the features added using it. It must be kept together with the source PowerPoint otherwise it won't have your progress when editing it as opposed to it all being in one file
  • While it does add features to PowerPoint, it's lacking in comparison to Storyline and so Storyline is preferred. What Storyline offers that iSpring lacks:
    • Can actually track more things -- such as items clicked or viewed -- or you can have custom variables that you can update/change such as scores, numbers, and booleans (yes/no)
    • Has a better timeline editor for adding animations/fade-ins
    • Has slide layers that allow for adding things such as pop-ups more easily (less programming time and more robust popups)
    • Storyline is actually so PowerPoint-esque that you can just import PowerPoints into Storyline
