Rise consists of pre-built blocks that allow you to add content, multimedia, and interactivities quickly and easily to create web courses that are responsive. These projects are set up more like a website, in contrast with Storyline which is modeled in PowerPoint.
Technology
Rise
Pros
- Web-based, so it is accessible and responsive to various devices including mobile, tablets, and desktops. This means that it will adapt its layout to suit the screen
- Intuitive to navigate. As with webpages, learners scroll down to access content. The menu bar on the left allows learners to skip forward and backward to different sections
- Includes many pre-built blocks to pick and choose from. This means eLearning can be created quite rapidly using Rise
- One of the quickest forms of eLearning to QA, due to limited customization features, pre-built blocks, and responsive design
Cons
- While it can be accessible, Instructional Designers must understand which elements to use, which to avoid, and which need tweaking in order to be fully accessible. For example, multiple-choice questions are accessible, drag-and-drop interactions are not, and “alt” tags must be added to images in order for them to be accessible
- Has a limited ability to customize. Although it offers customization features, they aren’t as extensive as Storyline
- Has fewer formatting abilities, meaning developers have less control over the layout of their project
- Has limited capabilities when it comes to creativity because courses are often built off of pre-loaded materials
