eMagazine's are a cross between a traditional print module and custom elearning module where content is being delivered in large part via a reading format (like a magazine) but enhanced by interactive content delivery features. Examples of interactive features include: expandable graphics which give more information on a topic, eg an intro paragraph of text covering the overall areas of the brain which is "expandable" and when selecting opens another window which shows the different areas of the brain and what functions each covers. Clickable charts/graphs -- user poplulates axis or chart info by selecting corresponding content buttons. Can have audio incorporated in to select contetn but does not need to (like in traditional approaches) to aid in telling the story since a portion of the content is read by the learner. Video can be incoporated if desired.
- Dynamic, interactive progress checks
- Completely customized format and interface
- Sophisticated 3D graphics
- Games and animations
- Faster to create a Print module from the STBD content than from an eModule
- Audio only can be triggered by a button/pop up
- Up front design time is needed to ensure it is written, programmed, and budgeted correctly
