This table shows the relative risk associated with various established colorectal cancer risk factors. While heredity and medical history are not modifiable, behavioral factors such as alcohol consumption, a sedentary lifestyle, a Western Diet, and smoking also influence risk. Nonmodifiable factors that increase risk include a family history of CRC and certain medical conditions such as chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Note that some factors are known to decrease the risk of CRC, including physical activity and milk and dairy consumption.
